Grief & Bereavement Counselling

Couples & Marriage Counselling

For adults navigating anxiety, people-pleasing, boundary setting & difficult family or friendship dynamics.

Did you grow up feeling like your needs were “too much”?
Like your feelings were inconvenient, dramatic, or wrong?

🌿 Maybe you learned to:

  • Keep the peace
  • Carry other people’s emotions
  • Stay quiet to avoid conflict
  • Doubt your own memories or instincts

If you were raised by an emotionally immature, critical, or unpredictable parent, those patterns don’t tend to disappear in adulthood.

🌿 This often shows up in adults as:

  • Anxiety that won’t fully settle
  • Guilt or fear when you set boundaries or take care of your own needs
  • Overthinking and self-doubt
  • Feeling responsible for everyone else
  • Struggling to trust yourself in relationships

🌿In our work together, we focus on practical tools and learn to genuinely reconnect with yourself to help support you to:

  • Calm anxiety in your body
  • Set boundaries without overwhelming guilt
  • Stop people-pleasing patterns
  • Build healthier, steadier relationships
  • Reconnect with your own experience, voice and needs

We will work to understand your past, so you can stop repeating it.

Couples & Marriage Counselling

Grief & Bereavement Counselling

Couples & Marriage Counselling

For partners who love each other, but feel stuck.

You love each other.
But you keep having the same fight.

One shuts down.
One pursues.
Both feel unheard. Criticized.

Often, couples aren’t fighting about the surface issue.
They’re more likely reacting from old wounds, stress, or grief they haven’t processed.

🌿 In couples work, we will focus on:

  • • Slowing down reactive cycles that cause conflict
    • Understanding each other's nervous system and triggers
    • Learning specific phrases and repair tools
    • Reducing defensiveness
    • Rebuilding emotional safety
    • Grieving what hasn’t worked, and then choosing what could
  • • Create healthy boundaries within the relationship and if needed, also with extended family or in-laws

You will leave sessions with practical communication frameworks — not scripts, but language that fits you.

Couples therapy isn’t about deciding nor proving who’s right.
It’s about creating steadiness and understanding, so both people can feel safe enough to soften and reconnect with each other.

Grief & Bereavement Counselling

Grief & Bereavement Counselling

Grief & Bereavement Counselling

For adults navigating grief, loss, and life after the loss of someone or something deeply loved.

Grief can feel overwhelming, isolating, and deeply painful. Whether you are grieving the death of a loved one, facing the hard choice of saying goodbye to your beloved companion or carrying another significant life loss, you do not have to navigate it alone.

I support adults experiencing many forms of grief and loss, including the kinds that others may not always understand.

🌿 Grief can come from:

  • The death of a loved one
  • The loss of a beloved pet or companion animal
  • Anticipatory grief while caring for someone who is ill or aging
  • The end of a relationship or marriage
  • A friendship that changed or ended
  • A dream, future, or life path that didn't unfold as hoped
  • A career loss or major life transition
  • Growing up without the emotional support, safety, or connection you needed

Sometimes the deepest grief is the kind that goes unseen.

You may wonder why the pain still feels so present.
You may feel pressure to "move on" or believe you should be coping differently.
You may find yourself carrying sadness, anger, guilt, regret, relief, or confusion.

The truth is that grief reflects the significance of what was lost.

🌿 In our work together, we can:

  • Create space for your grief without judgment
  • Honour and make sense of what has been lost
  • Process complex emotions and experiences
  • Develop ways to cope with the impact grief is having on your daily life
  • Find a path forward while continuing to hold the love, meaning, and memories that matter to you.

There is no right way to grieve and no timeline you need to follow.

Just steady, compassionate support as you move through one of life's most difficult experiences.

Meet Your Counsellor: Jen McDonald, RTC

Hi, I'm Jen, a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Canada. I offer affordable therapy for adult individuals & couples in BC, who are navigating disconnect in their relationships, experiencing grief or loss, emotional neglect, or the lasting effects of challenging family dynamics or friendships.

You might feel overwhelmed, confused, or unsure of what’s “wrong”, especially if you’ve spent years minimizing your own experiences. My role is to offer a warm, grounded space where your story can be heard, your feelings validated, and your healing journey supported.

Through warmth, empathy, specialized training and real-life experiences, I support you in gently untangling your story and making sense of it all—at your own pace—and rebuilding a more empowered, connected version of yourself. Healing is possible. You don’t have to do it alone.

🌱 Grief. Loss. Difficult Relationships. Couples Counselling. Emotional Healing.🌱

Let’s begin, together.

I know reaching out for support can be a huge and often very intimidating and scary step. It may even feel like a weakness. My hope is that by reading a little more about me, it will help to settle some of those very normal feelings you may be having, in trying to find a counsellor who you can feel comfortable being open with. But I want to encourage you to trust yourself, you'll know when you find the right counsellor for you.

A Soft Presence : Meet Willow

Willow is a gentle, sweet and full of character kitty. As a rescue with her own story of healing, she brings a quiet, sometimes giggle inducing, yet comforting presence to the counselling space at Nurture Me Counselling. On calmer days, she may choose to curl up nearby during our session—offering warmth, grounding, and the occasional purr of support.

Her presence is always optional but if you’d like to request a visit from Willow during your session, we can discuss that during our consult call.
